Inside Story – Yasmin Irwin

Yasmin Irwin Financial AdvisorWednesday December 11, 2024

1. Tell us about your current role; what does the job entail?

I was recently promoted to the financial advisor role here at IPF. My job as a financial advisor entails working with new and existing clients on a daily basis. I work with these clients to get a good understanding of their needs and financial goals, and from there I tailor a structured financial plan to help them reach their financial goals.

2.  How long have you worked in IPF?

I have been working with IPF for just over a year, since November 2022. Since then I have gained invaluable experience/ training which has helped me build strong financial plans with clients and help newer staff members as they start their journey in the company.

3. What attracted you to working there?

The opportunity to build a long-lasting career while having endless opportunities to progress was really attractive to me. It was made clear from the beginning of my career that the culture at IPF is one where we celebrate each other’s successes. The opportunity for growth in the company is second to none, and all current staff members joined the company at a junior level which speaks volumes about the opportunities available.

4. Tell us about your average day.

My day-to-day role entails meeting with two to three existing and new clients. During these meetings, I carry out a detailed fact-finding exercise, which helps me to understand the client’s needs and financial objectives. To make the best recommendations to the client, I review existing plans, exposure areas, and potential plan enhancements. Once I have established the best course of action with the client, I create a follow-up email summarising the discussion and action points.

5. What do you enjoy about your job?

This is a gratifying job as I enjoy speaking with different clients daily to help them achieve their financial goals. I also enjoy working with my colleagues; the office has a great culture and a sense of camaraderie.

6. What are the challenges?

Every day is different, and it can be quite a stressful job at times if you are not organised and prepared for the week ahead. It is essential to listen to what the client is telling you and to make sure you are advising the best possible solution. I try to reflect and reevaluate my week to ensure that I can take on board areas to improve.

7. Describe the work culture in the company.

The work culture at IPF is one where we all celebrate each other’s successes. Everyone inside the company gets along and will help with anything you need. There is an open door policy, and everyone will happily make the time for you if needed. There is a good mix of work-life balance.

8. What advice would you give to somebody interested in working there?

IPF is a place where you can build a long-lasting career if you are determined and willing to put the work in. It can be challenging and stressful at times, but how you react and learn from a tough week will determine your overall success.

9.  Is there something unique or interesting about your company that you’d like to share with jobseekers (perks, benefits, training, social clubs etc)

There is a shared learning environment here at IPF. Daily training is provided, and we are constantly learning from each other. The remuneration package is also next to none, and I really like that if you put the work in, you will see the rewards.
